The small chores that make you switch windows dozens of times a day: finding an issue from a number in chat, digging the meeting link out of old messages, hunting for the mute button before a call. Hopkey handles them from the Mac menu bar. Double-tap ⌘, press one letter.
Hopkey is for people who spend the day between an issue tracker, a messenger and calls. Your workflow stays the same; only the extra steps go away.
Copy text with a key, and a notification appears; click it to open the page. Or select a key in any app and press Q in the palette.
proj-7 → PROJ-7.Predefined values (meeting links, canned replies, billing details, test-environment passwords) are pasted wherever your cursor is. Use a digit in the palette, or the full list with ⌃⌥V on top of any app.
Keep production passwords in your password manager. Hopkey is for test environments and the things you need many times a day.
Mute works system-wide through CoreAudio, in any calling app. Press M in the palette or ⇧⌘M from anywhere, and the menu bar icon shows whether anyone can hear you.
The palette’s secondary modules. Each is one key after a double ⌘, and frequent commands can get a direct hotkey.
Text and images, encrypted on disk. Copies a password manager marks as concealed are never recorded.
Seven persistent drafts in the spirit of Tot, one ⌃⌥N away.
Case, JSON, URL, Base64, JWT and lines for the selected text, with a preview.
Select an area, and the recognized text (en/ru) is already in the clipboard. Your Mac does the recognition.
Apps, commands and a calculator, right in the palette.
Paste only the text from the clipboard, without fonts or colors.
Switch headphones, speakers or a headset mic without opening System Settings.
One switch for long builds and big downloads.
Palette letters are matched by the physical key, not the character it types. M stays mute even when you’re typing in Cyrillic and that key produces “Ь”.
Try pressing M on your keyboard, in any layout.
Hopkey goes online only to check for updates.
Copying the text is enough. No need to open the palette and type a query.
Palette letters follow the physical key in any layout.

Hopkey has no servers, no account and no telemetry. Snippets and clipboard history are never synced to iCloud or any other cloud.
Values live in the macOS Keychain, and other apps can’t read them without your permission. A password is wiped from the clipboard right after you paste it.
History is stored on disk with AES-256-GCM, the key kept in Keychain. Copies a password manager marks as concealed are never saved.
Ordinary unencrypted files in Application Support. Take them with you, no Hopkey needed, but keep passwords in snippets.
To put the selected text into the key input window and to paste a snippet into another app’s field, Hopkey presses ⌘C and ⌘V for you. Without it, the input window opens empty and a snippet goes to the clipboard. Mic mute, keep-awake and text from screen need no extra permissions.
No. Recognition is set up with regex → URL templates. There are Jira, GitHub, GitLab and CVE presets; just fill in your domain or repository. You can add any pattern of your own.
Yes. In Settings, the double tap can switch to ⌥ or be turned off. A left click on the menu bar icon also opens the palette, and frequent commands can get direct hotkeys.
macOS doesn’t let one app insert links into another app’s windows, and the system’s Text Replacements only do static swaps. So Hopkey recognizes the key and opens the right page instead.
You need macOS 13 or later. It’s a universal build that runs on both Apple Silicon and Intel. Updates arrive through Sparkle.
Nothing. Hopkey is free and open source under the MIT license.
Open the DMG, drag Hopkey to Applications and launch it. The icon shows up in the menu bar.
